HOW TO LOVE BLACKBERRIES

The project How to Love Blackberries by Paula Schulte consists of a book which includes exercises that invite to experience the love for blackberries, for Paula this resulted in the form of a basket. Blackberries are deeply rooted in our culture, ecosystems, and history. While some people cherish blackberry picking in summer, others rip out the bushes in winter. Blackberries being one of many “invasive species”, this project invites to questions the idea of invasive species and to reflection on what we choose to value in nature. The project unpacks the entanglements of blackberries with our humans’ history, culture, our constant need to control and the human’s invasiveness.
