THIS MATERIAL WILL BE RARE

The set of jewellery this material will be rare is a speculative design project that aims to critique the exploitation of raw materials by humankind.
Jewellery is an object that since the beginning of humankind conveys worth and status being at the same time an object of generational investment. Often jewellery pieces incorporate a centrepiece like gemstone and a diamond. In the exhibited pieces the center pieces get replaces by the raw material water, sand and phosphorus.
The three materials: Phosphorus, Sand and Water, are crucial resources in our world but we keep on exploiting them in an unsustainable and wasteful way. The raw material might have currently little value but they will have big worth by the end of the century. By confronting the viewer with the absurdity of having this very „normal“ material in incorporated in jewellery and at the same time listening to the video essay, they are asked to question our consumerism, our way of giving value to objects and our exploitation of materials.
